Hidden Figures: True Story of 3 Women in NASA

#BlogchatterBlogHop

Hidden Figures is a brilliant and inspiring movie that launched in 2016, I came across the movie during the first lockdown on Netflix. I was so inspired by the movie that I literally memorized it. The movie is based on a Novel by the same name written by Margot Lee Shetterly on 3 African-American Women in the 1960s who going through the hardship of life with racial bias in the Langley Research Centre of NASA. The movie is moving, characters are strong and well-played by the actors.

The story revolves around Katherine Johnson (Taraji P Henson) brilliant Mathematician, Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) accomplished Engineer, and Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) Supervisor of the Programming Division of IBM in NASA.

These women go through so many difficulties to finally attain the position they deserved. Facing racial bias and gender bias in NASA did not stop them from moving forward.

Katherine fought for her existence and was the first person to figure out the equation of reentry for the Apollo through Analytical Geometry.

Mary Jackson found the fault in the heatshield to prevent the burning at re-entry. She went to court to get permission to join Engineering school. She was the first African American woman to get a Degree in Engineering.

Dorothy Vaughan self-learned the Fortran language and taught 20 more women to operate IBM in NASA. She earned her position as Supervisor of the Programming Division at NASA.

The movie inspired me to keep moving forward with determination no matter how many difficulties are thrown at you. Your hard work matters and you will get rewards in the end.

The movie highlighted the importance of education and skill acquisition. No one is too old to learn new things. Anything that you’re adding to your skillset would help you sooner or later.

Hidden Figures emphasizes the importance of education and determination. These women worked hard till the end to reach their dreams, we all should not give up on our dreams and pursue them no matter how hard they are. I’m very inspired by the movie and would certainly recommend it to everyone.

No matter how hard life is keep moving forward to reach your Dream Share on X
